Manufacturers share innovation to compete
Hundreds of delegates attending the North West Manufacturers' Summer Conference in May will have their eyes sharply focused on innovation as a key weapon in the fight for business survival.
The conference - "Unlocking the secrets of growth and innovation" - is bringing together keynote speakers to give practical advice into how UK manufacturers can use innovation and advanced manufacturing techniques to compete against the low cost economies of the Far East.
The event at Bolton's Reebok Stadium on Thursday, May 18, is being staged free of charge to all North West manufacturing companies by The Manufacturing Institute, which delivers the DTI's Manufacturing Advisory Service in the North West region.
Among the speakers are manufacturing leaders from companies such as Flowcrete and Jaguar Land Rover, alongside experts from Cambridge University, the TUC and the Northwest Regional Development Agency (NWDA).
"There will around 450-500 manufacturers attending the event, each of them eager to share the latest knowledge for improving their own productivity," commented Dr Julie Madigan, chief executive of The Manufacturing Institute.
"Their ability to be innovative in the way they design, produce and deliver products to customers is essential to the regionメs survival as a manufacturing base. The conference will inspire managers to rise to the tough personal challenges they face - and guide them along the right path."
The conference will close on an inspirational note, with a talk by round the world yachtsman Pete Goss MBE on the power of motivation and teamwork to meet any challenge.
